Houston worker rescued after tractor rolls on top of him

A city of Houston employee was in good spirits after his tractor mower rolled on top of him Wednesday afternoon, Houston fire officials said.

The worker was mowing right-of-way along a ditch near Beechnut Street and Ferris Drive around 1:45 p.m. As he moved west along the ditch, the tractor rolled down a small embankment and landed on top of him, according to the Houston Fire Department.

Firefighters were able to prop up the tractor and pull the man to safety. The tractor was equipped with a roll bar.

An HFD captain said the man joked with paramedics, saying that he lamented having to miss his evening beer in lieu of a hospital visit.

The extent of his injuries was unclear, but HFD officials said he is expected to be OK.
