A 6-year-old boy was lost but now brought back with his family after he was found wandering near the South Loop Saturday night.
Working at a 24-hour tire shop along the South Loop, James Davis and his co-workers have seen a lot, but this was a first.
“We noticed a young boy crossing over the median, going on to the freeway with a toy lawnmower. The lawnmower that he had, we were looking and heard a car blow the horn,” said Davis.
Davis said a car stopped and started to pick up the boy but the workers stopped them and took the boy to the shop and called police. They gave him cookies, a drink and a balloon while he had a smile on his face, too young to understand the dangerous close call.
“I have a 5-year-old little girl and for this little boy to be six years old and just wandering like he was wandering,” Davis said. “It was heart cringing, it was heart cringing.”
Police told the employees the boy had wandered from a mosque about two blocks away while his family and others were praying. The family was relieved to have him back and the workers say while the boy was in the wrong place, they were glad they were in the right place to help.
“I’m just glad we were able to be here at that time of night to actually be able to stop a potentially tragic accident from happening,” added Davis.
