A mother is relieved to finally have closure over her missing daughter.

Homicide detectives were on the scene in the 3100 block of Hadley for most of Friday afternoon where police confirmed a body was found in a manhole.

The case is believed to be linked to missing Houston woman Brittany Burfield.

Alex Haggerty, who’s charged with Burfield’s murder, led detectives to this scene.

Community activist Quanell X says Haggerty told him where her body was located and claims others were involved.

Haggerty also claims Burfield’s death is a result of a drug deal gone bad.

“He wanted to get this off his chest,” said Quanell.

Burfield’s mother, Tricia Valentine, says she was with police when they made the discovery.

“I am so grateful to Quanell for going and talking to him and getting him to open up and tell … where she’s at,” said Valentine. “I don’t know what all he told to Quanell, I’m just grateful to that man.”

Sergeant Steven Murdock with the Houston Police Department says Haggerty gave them the tip early Friday.

He described the area in which the remains were found as a conduit chamber for phone lines.

“After talking to (the department of) public works, it’s a sealed chamber,” said Murdock. “Yes, there is water down there, but it’s not a moving situation. It’s a sealed compartment underground.”

Murdock says the manhole is about 9 feet deep and had roughly 6 inches of standing water at the bottom.

“I’m so excited that we have her now,” said Valentine. “I’m so excited that we have her back. I love Brittany. I would have loved her if we found or didn’t find her, but I’m so excited to have her back.”

Burfield, 37, was last seen on June 25, 2018.
