HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – Authorities in Harris County are probing the demise of a 13-year-old boy who was non-responsive for an extended period, as reported by Harris County officials.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez stated that law enforcement personnel were dispatched to 12700 W FM 1960 following a service call received at around 2 a.m. The call reported an unresponsive 13-year-old male at an apartment complex who seemed to be exhibiting signs of foaming at the mouth.
Upon the arrival of EMS personnel at the residence, they declared the teenager deceased and surmised that he had been in this state for several hours. According to officials, there were six adults and seven children present in the apartment, with ages spanning from infants to 17 years old.
Sheriff Gonzalez mentioned that, according to the family’s account, the teenager had lain down on the living room floor at around 8 a.m. after taking an aspirin with the intention of going to sleep. Something had alerted the family to the fact that he was not feeling well.
At approximately 3 p.m., relatives inspected the young boy and made efforts to rouse him, but he continued to show no signs of responsiveness, according to authorities.
Sheriff Gonzalez reported that close to 2 a.m., the family observed blood droplets emanating from him and immediately contacted the authorities. The teenager’s mother was present in the residence at that time.
The 13-year-old typically slept on the floor and was usually a heavy sleeper, officials say.
There were no signs to indicate it was a dangerous situation, the sheriff reported.
Gonzalez says they are waiting for a cause of death report from Harris County Institute Forensics Science told determine the next steps in the case.
The incident is under investigation. No one was arrested or detained at the apartment.
