Thousands of Capital One customers are facing difficulties accessing their accounts online due to a technical issue with a third-party vendor. The glitch, which began on Thursday and continued into Friday, has disrupted several bank services, including payment processing, deposits, and access to consumer, small business, and commercial banking features.
The bank confirmed the problem in a statement to CNN, explaining that a “technical issue experienced by a third-party vendor” temporarily impacted their services. Customers have been expressing frustration on social media, with many reporting that they cannot pay bills or access their funds. Downdetector, a website that tracks online outages, has also seen a surge in complaints from Capital One users.
The affected third-party vendor, FIS Global, which provides financial technology services to multiple major banks, including Capital One, stated that a power outage caused the disruption. The company assured that they are working to resolve the issue and finalize the posting of transactions that occurred while systems were offline.
Capital One’s support account on social media has been flooded with complaints, some using explicit language, as customers seek answers. The bank has apologized for the inconvenience, stating, “We are actively working with the vendor to resolve the issue and apologize to our customers for this inconvenience.”
In the meantime, users accessing the Capital One app are greeted with a message noting technical issues, and the bank is working to resolve the problem as quickly as possible.
