Investigators are still on the scene of a fatal three-vehicle crash involving an 18-wheeler Thursday morning that has Almeda Road shut down in both directions on the city’s south side.
This happened in the 1400 block of Almeda at Reed Road, west of SH-288 shortly after 6 a.m.
Police say a driver in a Volvo who was heading north on Almeda crossed the center line and swerved left into the path of an 18-wheeler traveling in the southbound lanes.
The Volvo was hit, killing the driver.
Officials say the big rig then swerved to the left of the center line, hitting a white Toyota Tacoma pick up truck before crossing a ditch near railroad tracks.
SkyEye was over the area shortly after the accident where the big rig could be seen on its side. It’s still in the ditch.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital with minor injuries.
The Toyota driver was not hurt.
Authorities say it’s not clear why the Volvo driver drifted into the southbound lanes.
