Where Fires Are Burning in San Diego County
Here’s a look at the active wildfires burning in San Diego County as of Tuesday, January 21, 2025.
Wildfires in California are typically named after nearby locations, and firefighters often say that there is no longer a “fire season.” The threat of a wildfire sparking and quickly spreading remains year-round. However, there’s heightened awareness during the dry fall and winter months, when Santa Ana winds can quickly fuel a spark into a major fire.
Here’s a summary of the wildfires currently burning in San Diego County as of January 21, 2025:
Center Fire
Firefighters are responding to a brush fire in Rancho Bernardo that started around 8:55 a.m. near Bernardo Center Drive and Camino del Norte. San Diego Fire-Rescue and Poway Fire are on the scene.
Mission Valley Fire
A brush fire broke out around 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday near Fashion Valley Mall in Mission Valley. The fire burned 15 to 20 acres and caused damage to at least one apartment. The cause is under investigation.
Lilac Fire
This fire started Tuesday near Old Hwy 395 and Lilac Road in Bonsall at around 1:20 a.m. The fire scorched 85 acres and was 90% contained by Tuesday night. The cause is still under investigation.
Pala Fire
The fire began Tuesday near Old Hwy 395 and Canonita Drive in Fallbrook. It grew to 17 acres before crews were able to contain the blaze. The cause is under investigation.
Poway Fire
A brush fire ignited around 1:20 p.m. Monday along Pomerado Road in Poway. It quickly grew to 3 acres and threatened homes before being stopped by firefighting crews.
