Students at Willowridge High School, which closed its doors at the beginning of the school year due to mold issues, will reopen by the time classes resume for winter break.
According to Fort Bend ISD, air conditioning issues that contributed to the mold’s growth over the summer are being resolved, causing a delay in the time that students can return to campus.
A January 2018 return date is now being estimated, school officials said.
Students began the school year at Marshall High School.
The school district said Hurricane Harvey prompted only minor delays in the “mold remediation” process at Willowridge. But newly-discovered issues involving the heating and cooling system prompted crews to replace at least three chilling units.
The school is also undergoing flooring, ceiling tile and drywall replacement.
Officials originally estimated September for a reopening of the campus to students and staff.
