In a time when we’re seeing some department stores and malls shutdown, a bit of good news from Katy Mills Mall.
The shopping center is actually getting ready to grow.
For the first time since it was built in 1999, the popular mall will undergo some major renovations.
The first phase will start next month.
The dining area will be completely overhauled. The primary color floors and ceilings will disappear and everything will get a neutral coat of paint.
Officials know a lot of young families are living in Katy now and they want the mall to be a better overall experience for them. This includes an updated play place for kids.
A ceremonial tile breaking ceremony signaled the start of construction.
The official work will begin next month.
The second phase will include the outside of the mall. Finally, the signage will be updated.
Officials hope the changes will also draw new businesses to the mall.
It was not revealed how much the renovation project is expected to cost.
