In front of North Main Baptist Church in Liberty on SH 146, a 31-year-old Splendora man was killed Friday morning in a three-vehicle accident.
Derrick Murray was headed southbound on SH 146 in a 2016 F-150 around 6 a.m. when he crossed the center line and collided with two northbound vehicles – a 2004 F-250 and a 2014 Kenworth tractor-trailer hauling an empty propane trailer, according to Lt. Chip Fairchild, spokesperson for Liberty Police Department.
Murray struck the tractor-trailer almost head-on, Fairchild said. The Ford F-250 left the east side of the roadway, rolling over before it came to rest.
Murray died at the scene.
Liberty County Pct. 1 Justice of the Peace Stephen Hebert ordered an autopsy to be performed in Jefferson County. Neither driver of the F-250 or tractor-trailer suffered life-threatening injuries, authorities said. The accident forced the closure of the road until 2 p.m.
