Urinary tract infections or urinary tract infections (UTIs) are much more frequent in women than in men and are caused by bacteria present anywhere in the urinary tract: kidney, bladder or urethra
Causes of urinary tract infections
There are many factors that help the production of a UTI:
– Clean from back to front after evacuating the bowel. Germs can enter the urethra, through the external urethral orifice, which is located in the female vulva
– Maintain sexual relations. The germs in the vagina can reach the urethra.
– Wait too long to empty the bladder. When urine stays in the bladder for too long, there are more germs, which can predispose to a UTI.
– Use a contraceptive diaphragm or spermicidal creams with the diaphragm or condom, or condom.
– Kidney stones. They hinder the emptying of the bladder and injure the urinary tract.
– Having diabetes. This disease affects the body’s immune defense system against infections.
– Lack of estrogen and changes in the vagina after menopause.
