A woman and baby were killed by a possible drunk driver early Wednesday morning in Clear Lake, police say.
This happened on the Gulf Freeway feeder road southbound near El Dorado Boulevard shortly before 4 a.m.
Authorities say a white Lincoln SUV rear-ended a black car with the woman and child inside.
We’re told that witnesses stopped to help, but it’s unclear if they saw the accident or only the aftermath.
Police say the baby, who appears to be 1-year-old or younger, was in a car seat. However, it’s unclear if the child was strapped in correctly.
The woman and the baby died at the scene.
The Lincoln driver, a 20-year-old woman, and a 17-year-old girl in the front passenger seat were taken to the hospital.
The extent of their injuries is unclear.
Officials told reporters early signs show that the driver of the SUV was drunk.
No word on how fast the SUV was going or where the driver was coming from.
At this time, no charges have been filed.
Police reopened the feeder road just before 9 a.m.
It had been closed for several hours while police investigated.
