Apple has issued an immediate update for its iPhone, Mac, and other products to address three security vulnerabilities. Users are strongly advised to install this update promptly, accessible through the Settings app.
Apple has acknowledged that all three of these vulnerabilities have already been exploited in real-world situations. However, no specific information was provided regarding the extent of these exploits or their targets.
These three vulnerabilities had the potential to allow attackers to navigate various parts of the operating system, potentially compromising data and gaining control of affected devices.
This security update is part of a series of responses to significant security issues that have arisen for Apple throughout the year. Earlier in the month, Apple had to patch a severe security vulnerability that had reportedly been exploited by attackers employing the “Pegasus” spyware.
The new updates are available for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. Users can install them through the respective settings apps by navigating to the “General” option and selecting “Software Update.” Devices may also prompt users to install the update.
Notably, this update arrived just three days after the release of iOS 17, Apple’s major iPhone update, and shortly before the launch of the new iPhone 15. Besides addressing security concerns, these updates also resolve other miscellaneous bugs, as stated by Apple.
All three of these newly discovered vulnerabilities were identified by Bill Marczak from The Citizen Lab at The University of Toronto’s Munk School and Maddie Stone from Google’s Threat Analysis Group, according to Apple. The Citizen Lab researchers were also responsible for identifying similar issues earlier in the month.
